Chapter 7

Cheyenne

The next few months seemed to fly by. Like literally, my check-ins with my manager were a blur. I did my promotional things for the movie and he started talking about next projects, but I told him to hold off on that. I was not ready. He did not like that, but I did not care. He also wanted to know about the awards show coming up, if I planned to attend, which I shared that I would. He asked me once again about a bodyguard and I told him that I had no issues and I was being well taken care of.

“Yeah, Shy. You look good. Look rested,” Paul commented. “You meet someone?”

“No,” I shared, so I didn’t have to explain, go through background checks or other bullshit.

It was almost comical to think about Fletch doing all of that. He would cuss everybody out. Hands down without blinking. God, that man made me hot all over. Just thinking about his surly ass, so commanding and brisk, yeah, I just wanted to keep him and Blooming secret for now. I didn’t want the world to get involved. Fletch was not for any of that bullshit.

“Well, when can we start talking about new gigs? There are a few movies that are different, but with this awards show coming out, I think you’ll win something. Maybe even nominated, it can sell.” Paul wouldn’t let it go.

Sighing, I eyed him and said, “Fine. One month before my lease is up, we can talk shop. Not a minute sooner.”

“Deal.” He nodded. “Oh, your divorce is final. Salvo finally signed the papers. Not sure what he was holding out for, but that prenup was ironclad. He got nothing and he also lost a modeling contract after that bullshit he did.”

Hmm.

“That’s unfortunate.” I nodded with a twist of my lips.

“Why unfortunate?” He jerked his head back and gave me a side-eye.

“That’s his livelihood.” I shrugged. “His personal affairs didn’t impact his job, did it?”

“Surprised at you,” he noted. “I would have thought that you’d be chomping at the bit for news like this.”

I shook my head.

“You know, Paul,” I started, “I just want to live my life without fear of people’s eyes, judgment, comments, and all that bullshit. Salvo was a horrible husband, but not a horrible employee. He made questionable choices, broke my heart and embarrassed me, but that doesn’t mean that I would wish the worst. He got enough shame already. He don’t need mine.”

I shrugged and drank the rest of my coffee.

“You into yoga or some shit now?” he asked, which caused me to spray my coffee all over the table.

“No, you jerk.” I shook my head. “Can’t even give a heart-felt speech.”

We laughed and shortly after he went back to Los Angeles and I went back home.

Fletch and I had our routines down. He drove me and picked me up from work. If I had to go out of town, I’d surprise him at the bar. I’d mostly stay with him at the bar and help out if he needed.
